Are You Dress Shopping???

As the owner of Providence Place Bridal Boutique and Venue, I have many girls that are just starting out looking for their perfect wedding dress. Many girls that either call or come by asked about the process for dress shopping. Well ladies, please don't be embarrassed about asking such important questions. Here are a few typical questions that are asked:

1. When should I order my dress?
I always recommend six months out. This gives you time for delivery, which varies from designer to designer. Also, just in case there is a natural disaster and shipping is backed up, this will give you plenty of leeway. You will want plenty of time for alterations so that you can have your dress ready for your photo shoot. If you don't have six months and need a dress quickly, talk to your sales representative who should help you find one.

2. What should I wear when I try on dresses?
Come in something comfortable. I have some ladies that wear a simple strapless bra and underwear. We provide bustiers if needed, but to be honest, most of the dresses do not need it. The top portions of wedding dresses are really built with plenty of support. Some ladies are very modest, but please know that your sales representative should step in and help you get into the dress. The dresses can be difficult to try on.

3. What if I want to try on a dress and it isn't my size?
Dresses are "samples" in a variety of sizes. Don't worry if it isn't your exact size, you will be clipped in the dress so you will be able to see how it will look. Remember when you make a dress selection, measurements will be done so the dress will be made for your size and height.

4. Do the dresses come in different shades/colors?
Yes, most dresses come in white/white, ivory and champagne. We recently received a Mori Lee wedding dress in a soft pink, which has been a big hit with brides getting married a second time.

5. What if I love the dress, but want a different neckline?
Yes, you can change the neckline. I recommend finding a neckline in the same design line you are looking at so you will know exactly how it will look on your dress. The most request we get are the "heart shaped" neckline.

6. Once I find a dress, what will happen?
You will get your measurements written on a fitting sheet. You will need to be in your bra and panties only for measurements. The most common measurements are: bra size, breast, waist, hips, height, and hollow to hem. Once your measurements are complete, most boutiques require half down and a dress contract signed.

7. When my dress comes in, will it need alterations?
95% of dresses will need at least some minor nips/tucks and hem done. At Providence Place, when the dress arrives, we will contact you and make an appointment for you to come in and meet with our recommended alteration person. Make sure you bring the shoes you are going to wear, or at least the same height that you plan on wearing with your dress. When the alterations are complete, there will be a second fitting with the alteration person to make sure it fits perfect. Once all alterations are complete, the dress will be steamed and bagged for you.

8. Will I need to make an appointment at dress shops?
Yes, it is always recommended to call ahead and make a dress appointment. This will allow the boutique time set aside just for you!!! Also, let them know how many people will be coming with you. Some places limit the amount of people you can bring.

9. Aren't the dresses really expensive? What if I am on a tight budget?
Let your sales representative know what your budget is. It is her job to make sure you are put in a beautiful dress that fits your budget.

10. What should I expect from a boutique when I show up?
Your sales representative should sit down with you briefly to find out about your wear date, colors, style, ect... The sales representative should be friendly and make your dress shopping "an experience". You should NEVER feel pressure from your sales representative. If you feel this or are treated rude, leave!!!!

Well ladies, I hope these few tips will help you. This is an important decision and the process should be pleasant and stress free.
